Herdr
A background server owns your agent terminals, so closing the window, losing the network, or switching machines never stops Claude Code mid-task.

About
Herdr is a terminal multiplexer built around coding agents. A background server owns every terminal and the TUI, CLI, and SSH sessions are just clients, so you can close the window or lose the connection and Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and twenty-odd other agent CLIs keep working where you left them. It tracks each agent's state (working, blocked, idle, done) and rolls that up across tabs, projects, and any SSH-connected machine, so the agent that is waiting on you is visible at a glance. The core is a single Rust binary under Apache 2.0 for macOS, Linux, and Windows; a paid Herdr Cloud tier for linking machines without SSH setup is announced but not yet available.
Highlights
- Sessions survive the UI closing and network drops, and after a machine restart Herdr restores the layout and replays pane history
- Detects more than twenty agent CLIs out of the box, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot CLI, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, and Cline
- Shows whether each agent is working, blocked on you, idle, or done, and rolls that status up to tabs and workspaces
- Connect other machines over plain SSH and see their agents in the same sidebar; reconnects retry with backoff and one machine dropping does not affect the others
- Mouse-first TUI: click to focus a pane, drag borders to resize, right-click to split
- A CLI and socket API let agents read, send, wait, split, and attach, so one agent can drive another
- Plugins are local executables with manifest actions and event hooks, with roughly 1,200 community plugins already published
- Single Rust binary with no Electron, Apache 2.0 licensed, installed with one command or via Homebrew and Nix on macOS, Linux, and Windows
